[Training] Orientation KOICA Training Program on “Studying the Korean Policy on Prevention of Sex-selective Abortions”

Country specific KOICA training program titled “Studying the Korean Policy on Prevention of Sex-selective Abortions” will be held during June 30 – July 7, 2021 for 17 officials from the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The overall training program is planned to be a three years course with this being the Second year. Last year 13 officials related to policy regulation analysis participated at the training program, which helped them to strengthen capacity on planning and performing programs focused on ensuring women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. The training program for this year will also be held in an online format due to the global spread of COVID-19 and preventive measures.
The main objectives of mentioned training program are enhancing awareness on the prevention of sex-selective abortions and family planning, as well as, to strengthen policy making and enforce capabilities on women's sexual and reproductive health and rights in Azerbaijan, strengthen the ability to establish laws and policies in this field. The expected outcomes of the Program are to reduce sex-selective abortion rates and improve women's sexual and reproductive health and rights in Azerbaijan.
Shinhan University is the implementing agency of the training. The 8 days training program will familiarize the participants with the abortion prevention and practice in Republic of Korea, integrated approach to improving women’s sexual and reproductive health, gender equality policy in Korea, health problems and other topics.
Program participants will prepare a report on the current situation in the country, policies related to sex-selective abortions, gender equality and develop an action plan on finding solutions to the existing problems in Azerbaijan with the guidance of the Korean professors.
KOICA is a state agency, which was established under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea in 1991, in order to implement grant and cooperation programs for developing nations. KOICA has been inviting Azerbaijani public officials to various fellowship and scholarship programs since 1994. As of 2020, the number of KOICA alumni has reached over 840.
