Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and KOICA Bangladesh Alumni Association (KBAA), jointly held its most awaited event of the year known as KOICA Bangladesh Alumni Night 2019 at InterContinental Dhaka on 21st November.
The occasion aimed at deepening ties between the two countries was graced by Mr. Monzur Hossain MP, President, KBAA and Chairman, Rupali Bank Limited, Mr. Md. Nojibur Rahman, Principal Secretary to the Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Nazrul Islam, Secretary, Road Transport and Highways Division & Vice President, KBAA, H.E. Mr. Hu Kang-il, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, Mr. Shahriar Kader Siddiqy, Joint Secretary (Asia, JEC, F&F), Economic Relations Division and Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue, Country Director, KOICA Bangladesh Office among other high-level dignitaries.
It featured presentations on KOICA’s e-government Master Plan for Digital Bangladesh and KBAA’s voluntary awareness raising activities and knowledge sharing seminars held this year along with a colorful Bangladeshi patriotic performance by SharkariShishuParibar Tejgaon and instrumental music perforamce by Dhaka International Music Academy.
KOICA’s Country Director, Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue, further urged to stand together towards development leaving no one behind for people-centered for peace, prosperity and planet aligned with KOICA’s slogan. He added that since KOICA’s establishment in 1991, the Government of Korea supported over 2,300 Government Officials through capacity building programs in KOICA’s priority areas i.e. education and skill development, transportation, public health and ICT.
KOICA and KBAA held its annual event of the year “KBAA AGM 2018” at The Le Meridien Dhaka on 1st November, 2018 to share the knowledge and experience acquired in Korea. The main objective was to announce the new KBAA Executive Committee, which is the top administrative body of KBAA.
The Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs expressed his sincere appreciation for KOICA’s contribution in various sectors of Bangladesh particularly, for advancing its rich culture and heritage. Similarly, Mr. Nazrul Islam, Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Road, Transport and Bridges and Mr. Zahidul Haque, Additional Secretary, Economic Relations Division, who attended as the Special Guests, appreciated the invitational fellowship programs conducted by KOICA and mentioned that Bangladesh is looking towards Korea for its greater role in economic growth in Bangladesh-primarily through Korean investments and economic cooperation.
Mr. Monzur Hossain, Chairman, Rupali Bank Ltd, who is also the President of the association, encouraged the growing relationship between Korea and Bangladesh. He underlined that the KOICA alumni members strengthen and continue to develop a robust bridge between Korea and Bangladesh.
Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue, Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh Office, warmly welcomed all the government officials and highlighted how KBAA has achieved the remarkable operational success since its establishment. He further mentioned that this year Korea and Bangladesh are celebrating 45th anniversary of friendship and how KOICA aspires to work towards stronger relationship between the two countries.
The special attraction of the event was a colorful Bangladeshi cultural dance performance by Sharkari Shishu Paribar. Also, six (6) representatives from KOICA Alumni Bhutan (KAB) further glorified this annual event.

The Chief Guest of the event, Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs expressed his sincere appreciation for KOICA’s contribution in various sectors of Bangladesh particularly, for advancing its rich culture and heritage. Similarly, Mr. Zahidul Haque, Additional Secretary (Asia Wing Chief), Economic Relations Division who attended as the Special Guest, appreciated the invitational fellowship programs conducted by KOICA that have rigorously pursued over the years emphasizing that Bangladesh, like Korea, can also reach the status of a developed country in the near future.
H.E. Mr. Ahn Seong-doo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh who is also the Chief Patron of the association, encouraged the growing relationship between Korea and Bangladesh. He underlined that the alumni members strengthen and continue to develop a robust bridge between Korea and Bangladesh.
Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue, Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh Office, warmly welcomed all the attendees and highlighted how KBAA has achieved the remarkable operational success since its establishment. He further mentioned that the total member of KOICA Alumni consisting of Bangladeshi government officials and experts reached more than 2,000 indicating the association’s growth.
The event featured colorful Bangladeshi patriotic dance performance by Sharkari Shishu Paribar Tejgaon and presentation on Korean experience sharing of KOICA’s fellowship program on emergency and rescue response. Additionally, KBAA’s voluntary awareness raising activities and capacity building knowledge sharing seminars held in 2017 were also displayed at the occasion along with voluntary fund raising session by alumni members to support the Rohingyas.
Finally, the grand affair came to an end by encouraging closing remark by Mr. Monzur Hossain, President of KBAA and Chairman, Rupali Bank Limited.
