Let's Go Forward into 2018 Focusing on Ethical Management·Human Rights
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) President Mi-kyung Lee clarified three principles of △Ethical Management △Human Rights Advocation △Customer Impressions in a New Year’s address. On January 2, the President stated that ‘KOICA’s goal in 2018 is to demonstrate KOICA’s competence and expertise based on humanitarian spirit in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims at global co-prosperity.
※Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) : Replacing its predecessor, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the SDGs are set by the United Nations in 2015. It is consisted of 17 goals with 169 targets that are to be achieved by the year 2030.
President Mi-kyung Lee reaffirmed that KOICA will protect the basic principles and philosophy of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) as mentioned in her inaugural address. She then urged to follow the international rules on aid and increase the quality and performance of KOICA’s ODA.
1. Ethical Management
President Mi-kyung Lee emphasized ethical management as the first challenge of the organizational culture to turn last year’s crisis into opportunity.
She said, “Let the KOICA employees become strict on their own as the subject of innovation. When the transparency and accountability of the organization increases, we can meet the expectations of the public”. This is because KOICA had been suspected of involvement in last year’s political scandal.
2. Human Rights Advocation
President Mi-kyung Lee highlighted the advocation of human rights, saying “Lets create a culture of KOICA that respects everyone’s human rights. The President also instructed the employees △to encourage and praise each other △to overcome discriminatory language based on rank, age and sex △to expand gender sensitivity △to expand projects for socially disadvantaged groups. Since the inauguration in last November, she has shown particular interests in the vulnerable groups, holding events for children of multicultural families.
3. Customer Impressions
Thirdly, President Lee spoke with emphasis that KOICA must work hard from disclosure of transparent information to raise public interest and participation in KOICA.
“Today, the global village is one community and KOICA is the Korean government agency dedicated to realizing the will of the Korean people whom wish for mutual growth and peaceful prosperity. Let’s make a new KOICA with 2018 promises for innovation and development”, concluded the President.
