Opening a New Window to Develop Skilled Human Resources in Bangladesh
A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, LG Electronics and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on Tuesday, 28th August 2018 at the Conference Room of BMET in Dhaka. The objective of this MoU is to establish a shared framework for collaboration among the three parties to support developing market demand-driven Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course of BMET in Bangladesh to improve capacity of its trainers and employability of its trainees. Mr. Md. Salim Reza, Director General of BMET, Mr. Dong Kon Son, Managing Director of LG Electronics (Bangladesh Branch) and Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue, Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Under this MoU, LG Electronics will engage in establishing the LG Inverter Classroom, supplying and installing the relevant equipment, organizing and providing training to the trainers at LG Asia Service Center in Singapore, providing technical support including developing customized Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) course materials and providing internship and employment opportunity to trainees; while BMET will actively engage in the operational management and oversee the quality of the project. Likewise, KOICA, the Korean Government’s agency for overseas development, will actively engage in providing technical support to develop curriculum / learning materials for customized RAC course and organizing overall invitational training and internship and employment activity.
Speaking on the occasion, Country Director of KOICA Mr. Joe Hyun-Gue expressed that this is the very first model, where LG electronics, BMET and KOICA are working together to maximize skilled human resources to meet the demand of both local and overseas markets. He also mentioned that the cooperation will further strengthen the relationship between Bangladesh and Korea. Furthermore, he praised BMET and LG Electronics for their tremendous commitment in improving technical and vocational education and training to reduce unemployment through developing skilled manpower in Bangladesh. He also hoped that the certificates that graduates will obtain from this partnership will be internationally recognized and help get midlevel jobs in local and overseas markets.
Mr. Dong Kon Son, Managing Director of LG Electronics Bangladesh Branch expressed happiness for being the part of this cooperation. He also hoped that LG electronics will be able to extend their support towards developing skilled human resources in Bangladesh.
Finally, Mr. Md. Salim Reza, Director General of BMET said that they are one of the oldest institutions to provide skills training. He expressed gratitude to KOICA and LG Electronics for supporting this very important initiative. He also hoped that after reviewing the achievement and lesson learned of pilot phase project, the three parties will be able to expand pilot phase project to other technical or training or educational institute for vocational training.
