Climate Change and Disaster Prevention

KOICA conducts a training program "Climate Change and Disaster Prevention" for 22 participants from 12 countries as part of the Korean government's grant aid and technical cooperation program for 2010 as follows:

 

o Course Title : Climate Change and Disaster Prevention

o Duration : March 9 (Tue.) ~ March 27 (Sat.), 2010 (19 days)

o Venue : Seongnam & Cheonan, Korea

o Number of Participants : 21 Participants from 12 countries

 - Cambodia 2, China 1, Colombia 2, East Timor 1, Ecuador 1, Fiji 2, Honduras 2, Myanmar 2,
   Nepal 2, Papua New Guinea 2, Philippines 2, Tanzania 2

o Training Institution : National Disaster Management Institute (NDMI)

 

o Training Participants

- Should be government officials preferably in the mid-senior level or higher

- Should be public enterprises' officials preferably in the senior level or higher

 

o Course Objectives

- To present the enhanced disaster management system and instruct knowledge,
   skill and ability to respond diverse emergency caused by climate change

- To lessen the damage from disaster and to promote the security level of the participating
   countries with disaster prevention system

 

o The program consists of 3 parts ;

1. Disaster Management Policy in Korea

2. Climate Change & Disaster Management

3. Climate Change & Impact Assessment

4. Instream Flow Estimation & Drought analysis Techniques

5. Climate Change & Earthquake Responding System

6. Automatic Emergency Alert Service using T-DMB

7. Disaster Risk Reduction Plan by Responding to Climate Change

8. Reduction Plan for Drainage Area Inundation

9. Strengthening the Criterion of Flood Protection Facility

10. National Disaster Management System Operation

11. Disaster Warning System in Korea

 

B. COUNTRY REPORT PRESENTATION on

a) Disaster Management-related law & system of the country

b) Disaster Management-related organization of the central & local government

c) Present policy and outlook of Disaster Management system in the country

 

C. STUDY VISITS & CULTURAL EXCURSION

- National Typhoon Center, 'Gosan' Meteorological Observation, Windmill Power Plant, Jeju
   city excursion, etc

- Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Motors Co., Gyeongju city excursion, etc

- Gyeongbok Palace, National Folk Museum, N-Seoul Tower, Insadong,
   Namdaemun Market, etc.
