Reclamation and Rehabilitation Technologies for Abandoned Mine Lands

KOICA conducts a training program "Reclamation and Rehabilitation Technologies for Abandoned Mine Lands" for 12 participants from 5 countries as part of the Korean government's grant aid and technical cooperation program for 2010 as follows:

 

o Course Title : Reclamation and Rehabilitation Technologies for Abandoned Mine Lands

o Duration : April 12 - April 29, 2010 (18 days)

o Venue : Seoul and Seongnam, Korea

o Number of Participants : 12 Participants from 5 countries

 - Azerbaijan 3, Kazakhstan 2, Kyrgyzstan 3, Ukraine 1, Uzbekistan 3

o Training Institution : Mine Reclamation Corporation (MIRECO)

 

o Training Participants

- Middle or managerial-level officials in the public sector or senior members in private parties

  related to mine hazard management or treatment, publicity campaign or their financial affairs

 

o Course Objectives

- To contribute to the economic and social development of CIS countries

- To enhance resource diplomacy by sharing mine hazard prevention and reclamation

   technology with CIS countries via lectures and field trips related to the mine hazard

   reclamation business as following

 

o The program consists of 3 parts ;

 

A. LECTURES

1. Overview of mine development and hazard

2. Remedial technology for contaminated soil

3. Water treatment

4. Characterization and treatment of mine tailings

5. Mine subsidence control

6. Ecological forest restoration of mined land

7. Korean coal industry

 

B. COUNTRY REPORT PRESENTATION on

a) Brief introduction of the department represented by the participant

b) Brief national information and status of mine development

c) Status of mining business, yearly national budget, status of mine-hazard prevention and

    reclamation policy in the home country

d) Status of mine reclamation

e) General information and discussion topics for the companies willing to do the mine

    reclamation work in the home country

 

C. STUDY VISITS & CULTURAL EXCURSION

- Soil remediation site (Sewoo Mine), Kyungdong coal mine, Hwangji-Yuchang (passive)

   water treatment facility, Hamtae (active) water treatment facility, Taebaek coal museum,

   Contaminated stream and forest rehabilitation (Samtan coal mine), Jangseong coal mine,

   Sangdong mine tailings dam, Research Complex (KIGAM or KIER), Briquette manufacturing

   factory (HeungJin Energy), etc

- Hyundai Motors Co., Hyundai Heavy Industries, POSCO, etc

- Gyeongbok Palace, The National Folk Museum of Korea, Itaewon, N-Seoul Tower, NANTA

   Performance, Insadong, etc.
