2010 KOICA - PKNU International Graduate Program of Fisheries Science (GFS)

KOICA conducts a training program "2010 KOICA - PKNU International Graduate Program of Fisheries Science (GFS)" for 24 participants from 16 countries as part of the Korean government's grant aid and technical cooperation program for 2010 as follows:

 

o Course Title : 2010 KOICA - PKNU International Graduate Program of Fisheries Science (GFS)

o Duration : June 28, 2010 - August, 2011 (14 months)

o Venue : Busan, Korea

o Number of Participants : 20 Participants from 20 countries

- Algeria 1, Bangladesh 1, Cambodia 1, Cameroon 1, Egypt 1, El Salvador 1, Ethiopia 1,

   Ghana 1, Guatemala 1, Iran 1, Jordan 1, Laos 1, Myanmar 1 , Papua New Guinea 1, Peru 1,

   Philippines 1, Sri Lanka 1, Tanzania 1, Vietnam 1, Zimbabwe 1,

o Training Institution : Graduate School of Pukyong National University

 

o Training Participants

- Employment as government or related agencies official, academic faculty and staff, institute

   researcher, or company employee.

- A Bachelor's or a higher degree from accredited institutions.

 

o Course Objectives

- The GFS program aims to educate fisheries specialists and contribute economic

   development of developing countries.

- It enhances to develop diverse fisheries and marine resources for mutual benefits.

- It studies on various fields of fisheries sciences, such as aquaculture, marine biology,

   aquatic life medicine, fisheries education, food technology, nutrition, biotechnology, marine

   production system management, and marine business and economics.

- It builds up human networks between and among students and representatives of relevant

  agencies and organizations.

- Its extracurricular activities are designed to help experience and understand Korean fisheries

   farming, manufacture, fisheries business, language, culture and society.

- The program is specifically designed for fisheries-related government officials, academic

   faculty and staffs, institute researchers, or company employees from developing countries.

 

o The program consists of 2 parts;

 

A. Academic

a. PREPARATORY SESSION

- Orientation of Fisheries Sciences

- Learning of Primary Subjects

- Fundamental Experiments

- Assigning of Thesis Advisor

- Thesis Design, etc

b. REGULAR SESSIONS (FALL, WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER)

- 9 Credit Units (7 Courses: Seminar 1, Field Seminar 1, Fisheries Topics, Seminar 2,

   Field Seminar 2, Thesis Research, Scientific Research Presentation)

- 18 Credit Units (18 Courses : Eco-friendly Finfish Culture & System Management,

   Fish Reproduction, Fish Feed Nutrition & Feed Processing Technology, Seaweed Culture &

   Biotechnology, Fisheries Physiology, Fish Disease, Sensory Evaluation & Survey Method,

   Food Hygiene, Newer Food Design, Fisheries Waste Treatment, Computer Aided Fishing

   Gear Design & Practice, Fisheries Resource Assessment & Management, Biotelemetry,

   Fisheries Engineering, Fisheries Trade & Management Policy, Fisheries Economics,

   Fisheries Investment Appraisal, International Fisheries Law)
