On May 27, 2016, KOICA President Kim In Shik attended a ceremony to mark the start of construction on a new community-run auto mechanic training center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ceremony was also attended by Ethiopian First Lady Ms. Roman Tesfaye and Hyundai Motor President Mr. Chung Jin-haeng. The construction of the new auto mechanic training center is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.

KIA Motors’ Green Light Project is a global social mobility program started by the carmaker in 2012 ? strives to improve access to healthcare, education and employment for disadvantaged communities in Africa. The program seeks to empower local communities to improve mobility and self-sufficiency, and enable them to challenge and overcome their obstacles. The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) supports $4 million with KIA Motors for the Green Light Project in Ethiopia.

It is expected that KOICA’s know-how on development cooperation in partner countries and KIA Motors’ Green Light Project will make a synergy effect in Ethiopia enabling the underprivileged people to stand on their own feet.
