On May 27, 2016, KOICA President Kim In Shik attended a ceremony to mark
the start of construction on a new community-run auto mechanic training center
in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ceremony was also attended by Ethiopian First
Lady Ms. Roman Tesfaye and Hyundai Motor President Mr. Chung Jin-haeng. The
construction of the new auto mechanic training center is expected to be completed
in the first half of 2017.
KIA Motors’ Green Light Project is a global social mobility program started
by the carmaker in 2012 ？ strives to improve access to healthcare, education
and employment for disadvantaged communities in Africa. The program seeks to
empower local communities to improve mobility and self-sufficiency, and enable
them to challenge and overcome their obstacles. The Korea International Cooperation
Agency (KOICA) supports $4 million with KIA Motors for the Green Light Project
It is expected that KOICA’s know-how on development cooperation in partner
countries and KIA Motors’ Green Light Project will make a synergy effect in
Ethiopia enabling the underprivileged people to stand on their own feet.
