Today
the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Training Center whose purpose
is to narrow the technological gap and to bring a different option to Guatemalans
who want to get educated, will be inaugurated.
Mr.
Ricardo Mendez, chief of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Training Center of the Institute for Technical Training and Productivity (Intecap),
pointed out that the investment made in construction and equipment totals US$10
million, and the project was accomplished with the support of the Korea International
Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The
learning center has 17 classrooms, 12 of which already have complete groups
of 20 students, who have started their classes in the new facilities and new
equipment since last Monday.
According
to the information by Mr. Mendez, each classroom has 21 computers, 20 for the
use of the participants and one for the instructors of the class.
The
courses that the students will attend are in the areas of information technology
such as web design, databases and operative systems, for a small monthly fee
of 100 quetzals.
In
private universities, such courses have an estimate monthly cost of US150.00,
depending on the specialty.
¡°There
is the demand and the need for training, that¡¯s because all the productive
sectors need employees who know about technology¡± commented Mendez.
