Ethnic students in Vientian Province have the new school

More than 500 ethnic students of Vientian province will study and live in the newest and the most modernized school in Vangvienig District. The completion ceremony of Vangvieng Ethnic Secondary School construction project was held on Nov. 26.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) handed over the completed school to the Vientian province government at the ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Park, Jae-Hyun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Lao PDR, Mr. Ahn, Dong-Won, Vice president of KOICA, Mr. Khammeung Phongtady, Governor of Vientian province, Mr. Sung, Choon-Ki, Resident Representative of KOICA Laos office and many other guests.

KOICA provided grant aid of around 2.89 million dollars to construct the school covering an area of 6,400 square meters and having 20 classrooms, including 4 special rooms, and 76 dormitory rooms.

The students without parents and of minority races will be benefitted from this project. This school will replace old ones in Vangvieng and Xaysomboune districts.

¡°This school can contribute to human resource development and improve the quality of education using better equipment and facilities. And the Korean Government will continue its support for Laos to achieve the MDGs and other education sector development objectives, which is vital to its overall development,¡± said Ambassador Park.

"By constructing the school, the orphans and disadvantaged students in Vientian Province will study at the more comfortable and improved facilities. And I expect the students become the talented people to lead the development of Laos," said Mr. Ahn Dong-Won.

KOICA is aiding Laos educational system and facilities as one of the top priorities in development cooperation area to promote development of human resource of this country, especially it has given 3 million dollars to the Lao government to publish textbooks for middle and high school students for recent 3 years.
