KOICA overseas office in Laos held its first ¡®KOICA
Scholarship Program Workshop¡¯ in Vientiane, on Dec. 17, 2010.
The occasion was to disseminate the program¡¯s
information to Lao officials who are interested in doing their master¡¯s degree
in Korea. Approximately 30 Lao officials from various departments were in
attendance. At the workshop, three Lao officials who already got a master¡¯s
degree in Korea gave presentations to share their study and living experiences
in Korea.
For the opening remarks, KOICA representative Choon-ki
Sung stressed the importance of Human Resource Development and advised the
attendees on how to get prepared for the application processes, particularly
for the interview.
Each year, the government of Korea offers the chance for
Lao officials to apply for 10 Universities. Five of them start in February and
the others during late July. Each University will accept up to 4 candidates and
then process the application to select a maximum of 2 people for each country.
The selection procedure will include two rounds: an interview by the KOICA
office and an evaluation of the application documents during the Round 1, and a
telephone interview by the University for Round 2. Applicants are required to
submit an essay if needed. Applicants should be a government official or an employee
in the public sector and have sufficient command of both spoken and written
English.
Since 2002, 28 Lao officials have participated in the
master degree program in Korea.
