KOICA donates COVID-19 protective equipment to learning institutions
The government of the Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperative Agency (KOICA) Ethiopia Office has donated personal protective equipment to help Ethiopian educational institutions fight COVID-19.
As to the press release of the agency, the office provided the equipment to FDRE Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Federal TVET Agency and Ethiopian Technical University.
The source indicated that the support worth 40,000 USD targets at achieving the mission of KOICA’s TVET leaders’ Capacity Building Project in Ethiopia scheduled from 2020 to 2026.
As learnt from the release, the office donated a total of 20,000 pieces of reusable masks and 6940 hand sanitizers to protect more than 7000 instructors and administrative workers of the institutions.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Ministry of Science and Higher Education TVET Sector Policy and Strategy Directorate Director Melese Yimer said that stakeholders need to strengthen the mechanism of protecting the youth from the virus.
He stressed that the ministry has iframed a response plan to reduce the impact of the pandemic in the sector and such support will definitely help the institutions achieve the goal of providing learners with quality education.
Agency Country Director Lee Byunghwa on his part said that KOICA’s has focused over the last one and half years supporting government organizations to fight against the epidemic in Ethiopia.
