KOICA Alumni Association of Ghana (KAAG) is a non-profit organization made up of individuals who have benefited from scholarship and/or short training programs organized by KOICA in Korea. Currently, KAAG has 894 members. Since its inauguration in 2008, KAAG has undertaken various projects contributing its quota to the development of Ghana. In commemoration of the Annual Alumni Give Back Activity in 2015, the Association renovated, painted, refurbished the library and upgraded the drainage system of the Anani Memorial International School; an under-privileged school located in Nima, a squatter settlement in the Greater Accra Region. Donation of desks, water tanks, blackboards, books, etc. was also made to the school.
Subsequently, KAAG cleaned, painted, renovated and donated items (bunk beds, mosquito nets, toiletries) to the Osu Correctional Centre in 2016. A counseling session was also organized for the kids to help empower them. The following year, in 2017, KAAG planted almost 800 trees at the Weija Dam- Tomefa near Negleshie Amanfro.
In consonance with KOICA’s knowledge sharing for development, learning sharing forum was organized for 2017 scholarship beneficiaries to share their theses with their supervisors at work and the general public in June 2019. KOICA Ghana Office also collaborated with Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) to organize health practitioners' forum in October 2019. This forum was to give opportunity to both alumni members of KOICA and KOFIH to exchange knowledge, practical experiences, challenges, best practices, and outcomes from implementing health-related initiatives as well as from their day to day services.
In October 2019, members of the alumni voted for a five member executive board to steer the affairs of the association for a two year term. The new members comprised of Mr. Dominic Annang – President, Dr. David Agyapong Opare- Vice President, Madam Jemimah Offin- Secretary, Mr. Alex Osei- Bonsu- Treasurer and Alexander Kojo Nyarko- Project/Event Coordinator.
On the part of KOICA Ghana office, it manages the Alumni Membership by frequently updating its database with current information of new alumni members as well as old members who have changed their contact details. Social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp have been created for easy and faster communication and connection.
