World Friends Korea (WFK) is a coined term which stands for ‘friends who help those in need in developing countries’. It is Korea’s special Overseas Volunteer Corps that contributes significantly to development across the globe through volunteering activities. Since its inception in 2009, the ‘World Friends Korea’ Volunteers Program has facilitated and dispatched more than 12,000 volunteers and 600 advisors to recipient organizations worldwide. The program recruits the services of volunteers with diverse backgrounds and qualifications that meet the requested needs of the receiving organization or institution.
The World Friends KOICA Volunteer Group is in charge of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). KOICA is making a various of programs for developing countries, sharing our experiences with global neighbors to help each others. Volunteers are dispatched to more than 50 areas, including public administration, education, agriculture, fisheries, health and industrial energy, and volunteers with expertise needed by Ghana. They are performing not only these activities, but also to foster professional and development technology.
The first volunteer was dispatched to Ghana in 2017 and since then, a total of 41 volunteers have been dispatched so far. As at January 2020 , 17 volunteers, 1 global doctor, and 1 Korea Multilateral Cooperation Officer (KMCO) are currently serving and contributing significantly to different organizations and institutions across Ghana. While the receiving organizations gain a lot from this collaboration, WFK volunteers also have the chance to enrich their lives with their various experiences in their volunteer works. In all, WFK aims at building a better world through learning and sharing.
