Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office Visits National Institute of Civil Aviation (NICA) of Cambodia

Phnom Penh: On January 4, 2023, Mr. Rho Hyunjun, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office accompanied by his colleagues, Mr. Kim Kwangwook, Deputy Country Director, and Mr. Hort Sroeu, Senior Program Specialist visited the National Institute of Civil Aviation (NICA) of Cambodia.
The delegations were welcomed by His Excellency Gen. Dr. MAO Havannall, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), and His Excellency Lim Kao, President of NICA, and government officials of SSCA & NICA.
The purpose of the visit is to see the achievements such as the process of NICA Building’s operation, building, equipment and materials, and office furniture.
NICA, formerly Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) was built by KOICA, under the Korean grant aid of 10.1 million US dollars which included the construction of teaching facilities and the training of aviation students by Korean instructors.
In order to aid inclusive and sustainable development in the field aviation sector and to contribute to the sustainable development of the Cambodian economy, especially human resources in air transportation in Cambodia, the KOICA continues to support Cambodia by providing new equipment and materials, and upgrading facility.
During the visit, His Excellency Lim Kao spoke highly of the project that, within 5 years of operation, NICA has conducted more than 115 courses including soft and hard skills and 1,529 trainees have been trained.
For his part, His Excellency Gen. Dr. MAO Havannall underlined that CATC has been transformed and upgraded to the NICA by the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in order to permit NICA to be able to conduct training courses widely and higher class reaching bachelor. He also highly valued the achievements made by KOICA and expressed his gratitude to KOICA and the people and the government of the Republic of Korea for consistently supporting NICA.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rho Hyunjun said he expected that NICA will promote sustainable development in Cambodia by contributing to the development and development of human capabilities in aviation and to strengthening domestic and foreign aviation services that meet international standards.

I am pleased to see this achievement through our cooperation”, said Mr. Rho Hyunjun, Country Director of the KOICA Cambodia Office.
