The delegations from CRDB/CDC consisted of His Excellency Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and the Secretary General of CRDB/CDC, His Excellency Im Sour, Deputy Secretary General of CRDB/CDC, and Mr. Hong Sunchhay, Assistance to Minister Attached to Prime Minister, while the delegations from KOICA Cambodia Office were Mr. Rho Hyunjun, Country Director, Mr. Kim Kwangwook, Deputy Country Director, and Mr. Hort Sroeu, Senior Program Specialist.
The delegations were welcomed by His Excellency Professor Lou Lykheang, Director of PADH and Advisor to the Ministry of Health, other Deputy Directors, Chief and Vice Chief of Offices, and doctors and nurses of PADH.
The purpose of the visit is to see the achievements such as the process of ENT Building’s operation, building, medical equipment and materials, and office furniture since CRDB/CDC was the “One-Stop Service” and the “Etat-Major” of the Royal Government that coordinates with development partners and NGOs who provide development assistance. CRDB also serves as a focal point in liaison with governmental institutions to manage development cooperation and partnerships in Cambodia.
The Cambodia-Korea Friendship ENT Building was built by KOICA, under the Korean grant aid of 8 million US dollars with an implementation period from 2018 to 2022. A 5-story of new ENT building was constructed in Preah Ang Duong Hospital and installed with advanced equipment for diagnosis, treatment, and operation, to help improve the medical service of the hospital.
His Excellency Professor Lou Lykheang said that the construction of a new building was necessary in order to meet the needs of the increasing number of patients who come to receive services at the hospital; for example, in one day the hospital receives about 1,300 to 1,500 out-patients, mostly the general population and factory workers, and there are an average of 130 surgical operations a day, mostly ear, eye, nose and throat surgeries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rho Hyunjun said, besides upgrading physical infrastructure, the capacity of specialist doctors and staff members was advanced via the provision of the in-service training program and transferring advanced knowledge and sharing experience with Korean doctors. The Cambodia-Korea Friendship ENT Building was constructed after the Cambodia-Korea Friendship EYE Building in the complex of Preah Ang Duong Hospital.
For his part, His Excellency Minister Chhieng Yanara said the ENT building was a great hospital building of the national hospitals in Cambodia, situated at its prime location in the heart of Phnom Penh. He also highly valued the achievements made by KOICA and expressed his gratitude to KOICA and the people and the government of the Republic of Korea for consistently supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development through the implementation of projects and programs.
