How to requestfor Word Friends KOICA Volunteers (WFK-KOV)
The government of the Republic of Korea and Srilanka has agreed on the volunteer program in 1991. Srilanka Office welcomes that you are taking into consideration Korea as a possible cooperation partner country for the sustainable socio-economic development of Srilanka.
To better serve your needs and request, we would like to encourage you to take note of the following steps when you wish to request for World Friends KOICA Volunteers to KOICA Srilanka Office.
The volunteer secondment period ranges from 1 to 2 years. The possible pool of expertise includes education, vocational training, agriculture and fisheries, health, sanitation and agricultural development.

Step 1.
Demand survey
The government of Srilanka conducts demand survey for KOICA volunteers within different ministries and agencies. It is expected that the volunteers will work at the ministries, agencies or public organizations that have requested volunteers.
Step 2.
Site Survey
KOICA will conduct site survey when we would like to extend our volunteer working activities in Srilanka or at the request from your organization. As security and safety of volunteers is the highest priority issue, KOICA KOV coordinator will visit your organization to check work environment and conditions which your organization has noted in a request form.
Step 3.
Recruit and select volunteer for host organization
Post-site survey > Decision making > Informing host organization to fill out KOV request form > KOICA Srilanka Office submits the completed request form to KOICA headquarter office in Korea. Please note that it takes at least 6 months to process the document and recruit volunteer for dispatch.
Step 4.
Local adaptation training program in Srilanka
Volunteer newly arrived in Srilanka will train for 2 months to adapt to the local environment.
Adaptation Program:
Training conducted in Srilanka : Volunteers are trained on different aspects of Srilanka including language, culture and tradition, economic condition and history
Preliminary Meeting : We invite the relevant selected host organization to discuss on possible volunteer work scope at host organization.
OJT (On the Job Training) and Home Stay: We offer initial integration period at work place and living with Srilanka family for 2 weeks in order to adapt themselves and prepare to live in Srilanka for 2 years.
Certificate Ceremony: Certificate is given to KOV who have successfully completed the OJT and Home Stay program.
Step 5.
Dispatch of volunteer
After training, volunteers are dispatched to your organization and start to work. During this period, your organization would be advised to assign a co-worker for volunteer.
Step 6.
Service completion
When 2 years’ contract is terminated, volunteers will return to Korea. If your organization wish to extend their services or requires their successor, please submit completed form to request volunteers before the departure of volunteers.

Cooperation
Currently, KOICA doesn’t send volunteers to private organization. Please make sure to check that your organization status is public.
Please be informed that there will be KOICA visit your organization for site-survey prior to dispatching of volunteer. After dispatch of a volunteer, KOICA needs your support in managing volunteer activity, thus, strong cooperation is requested.
