World Friends Korea

World Friedns Korea(WFK) program include KOICA's talent training program for dispatching overseas volunteer corps[World Friends Korea] aimed at producing competitive human resources with field experience of development assistance project. These programs are KOICA's signature public participation programs intended to increase the number of Korean participants in debelopment assistance and create a wide range of jobs within and outside the country, including overseas volunteer corps[WFK], advisory groups, Young Professionals[YP], KOICA Multilateral Cooperation Officer[KMCO], global assistance physicians, and coordinators.

WORLD FRIENDS KOREA(WFK) Volunteer Corps

KOICA Overseas Volunteer program dispatches volunteers that reach out to more than 40 developing countries around the world to share their knowledge and skills, and to implement locally-identified development projects in collaboration with the community sharing Korea's development experiences with our partners in need and supports their economic and social growth.

KOICA dispatches volunteers in 38 professional field that Korea has the comparative advantage at, including public administration, education, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, health, industrial energy and international development. Education is one of WFK’s key thematic areas of service and the majority of volunteer teachers under the program focus on the subjects of science, mathematics, and ICT. Volunteers range from recent university graduates to teachers with more than 20 years of experience, which facilitates the exchange and sharing of knowledge, skills, and experience.

Over 100 learning institutions across Tanzania have been beneficiaries of the volunteer support program, which include projects such as the construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of libraries, laboratories, and educational environments, as well as the provision of computers, lab equipment, and books.

How to request for
Word Friends KOICA Volunteers (WFK-KOV)

The government of the Republic of Korea and Tanzania has agreed on the volunteer program in 2002. Tanzania Office welcomes that you are taking into consideration Korea as a possible cooperation partner country for the sustainable socio-economic development of Tanzania.

To better serve your needs and request, we would like to encourage you to take note of the following steps when you wish to request for World Friends KOICA Volunteers to KOICA Tanzania Office.

The volunteer secondment period ranges from 1 to 2 years. The possible pool of expertise includes education, vocational training, agriculture and fisheries, health, sanitation and agricultural development.

Step 1.

Demand survey

The government of Tanzania conducts demand survey for KOICA volunteers within different ministries and agencies. It is expected that the volunteers will work at the ministries, agencies or public organizations that have requested volunteers.

Step 2.

Site Survey

KOICA will conduct site survey when we would like to extend our volunteer working activities in Tanzania or at the request from your organization. As security and safety of volunteers is the highest priority issue, KOICA KOV coordinator will visit your organization to check work environment and conditions which your organization has noted in a request form.

Step 3.

Recruit and select volunteer for host organization

Post-site survey > Decision making > Informing host organization to fill out KOV request form > KOICA Tanzania Office submits the completed request form to KOICA headquarter office in Korea. Please note that it takes at least 6 months to process the document and recruit volunteer for dispatch.

Step 4.

Local adaptation training program in Tanzania

Volunteer newly arrived in Tanzania will train for 2 months to adapt to the local environment.

Adaptation Program:

  • Training conducted in Tanzania : Volunteers are trained on different aspects of Tanzania including language, culture and tradition, economic condition and history
  • Preliminary Meeting : We invite the relevant selected host organization to discuss on possible volunteer work scope at host organization.
  • OJT (On the Job Training) and Home Stay: We offer initial integration period at work place and living with Tanzania family for 2 weeks in order to adapt themselves and prepare to live in Tanzania for 2 years.
  • Certificate Ceremony: Certificate is given to KOV who have successfully completed the OJT and Home Stay program.
Step 5.

Dispatch of volunteer

After training, volunteers are dispatched to your organization and start to work. During this period, your organization would be advised to assign a co-worker for volunteer.

Step 6.

Service completion

When 2 years’ contract is terminated, volunteers will return to Korea. If your organization wish to extend their services or requires their successor, please submit completed form to request volunteers before the departure of volunteers.

Currently, KOICA doesn’t send volunteers to private organization. Please make sure to check that your organization status is public. Please be informed that there will be KOICA visit your organization for site-survey prior to dispatching of volunteer. After dispatch of a volunteer, KOICA needs your support in managing volunteer activity, thus, strong cooperation is requested.
